This is an excellent Study Abroad opportunity for students of all majors with an interest in Arabic studies and languages. AUC also offers an intensive Arabic Language Institute (ALI) for students with a strong desire to improve their Arabic skills. Throughout its history, AUC has balanced a strong commitment to liberal education with a concern for the region's needs for practical applications and professional specializations. Today, AUC emphasizes liberal education and all undergraduate students study a common set of courses in the humanities and the natural and social sciences as part of the university's core curriculum. In addition, the university maintains its strong commitment to fostering understanding across world regions, cultures and religions. The university environment is designed to advance proficient use of critical thinking, language and social skills. Courses are taught in English with the exception of the Arabic language classes. In addition, students live in Student Residence Halls. Fall semester runs September to December, spring semester runs January to May and an academic year runs September to May. Eligibility Applicants must have completed their freshman year and be in good academic standing to be considered for the program (minimum 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale). At least 2 semesters of college level Arabic or the equivalent are required to apply for this program. Courses Students may take any of the courses AUC offers. The subject areas of strength are: Business Administration, Economics, Communications, Humanities, Social Sciences, Sciences, Engineering and Intensive Arabic Language (Institute).
