Its primary platform is that strong social, economic, political, and military components and a healthy environment contribute equally to the nation’s security. CDI seeks realistic and cost-effective military spending without excess expenditures for weapons and policies that increase the danger of war. An interesting perspective concerning global security issues.

Crimes of War Project

The Crimes of War Project is a collaboration of journalists, lawyers and scholars dedicated to raising public awareness of the laws of war and their application to situations of conflict. The goal of the project is to promote understanding of international humanitarian law among journalists, policymakers, and the general public, in the belief that a wider knowledge of the legal framework governing armed conflict will lead to greater pressure to prevent breaches of the law, and to punish those who commit them.

The USIP web site provides excellent online resources including web links and publications highlighting peace, conflict, and security issues worldwide. They offer an excellent online resource, a Teaching Guide on International Terrorism: Definitions, Causes, and Responses, which can be downloaded from the USIP site.

Human Rights Watch

Human Rights Watch is an excellent resource for objective human rights information. There web site features information about a variety of campaigns coordinated by the organization. They also offer a special section focusing on the human rights issues related to September 11th.

Amnesty International

Amnesty International is also an extremely valuable resource for online human rights information. The Amnesty site features information about a variety of human rights campaigns and issues. The AI Education section is a great resource for teachers.

Oxfam

Oxfam is an international non-governmental organization working to find solutions to human security issues including poverty, hunger, and injustice. The Oxfam Internationl web site offers links to all of the various country sites and initiatives and access to varioius online publications and resources.
