The Center for International Education serves as a vital link between the campus and the community by creating and sustaining awareness of global issues. CIE sponsors an array of educational opportunities ranging from professional development workshops and resources for K-16 educators, to distinguished speakers, conferences and videoconferences, lectures, international film festivals, and secondary school programs.
Many of these programs are offered through CIE's Institute of World Affairs, the state's only World Affairs Council and an important source of continuing education on international issues for Wisconsin residents. The annual Kennan Forum, the Great Decisions Lecture Series, the Wisconsin High School Model United Nations, and Milwaukee Public Television's International Focus TV show are but a few examples of the Institute's longstanding programs.
Maintaining and strengthening mutually-beneficial relationships with teachers is an important part of CIE's mission. Providing access to high quality Global Studies teaching resources is another way in which CIE serves educators in Wisconsin and around the world.
The Global Studies Summer Institute and specialized workshops throughout the academic year support teachers' professional development. The Global Small Speakers Bureau arranges for UWM international students to visit classrooms throughout Milwaukee, sharing insights into their countries and cultures. Digital resources include Internet Resource Guides, Learning Objects and Global Studies Resources websites, and the Global Education Online Depository and Exchange.
