2002 Global Studies Summer Institute
When we try to pick out anything by itself, we find it hitched to everything else in the Universe. -- John Muir
The Global Studies Summer Institute (GSSI), sponsored by the Center for International Education (CIE), is a four-day program intended to provide K-12 educators with information and resources for teaching stude
nts about contemporary international issues and their practical applications for the classroom.
The 2002 GSSI, "Understanding the New World Disorder: Exploring Global Security Issues in the Classroom," examined issues related to the changing conceptions of security, and many issues related to understanding what contributes to security or insecurity in our world. Themes included changing conceptions of security, the relationship between globalization and security, security and the nation-state, human security, and the connections between global security and issues including human right
s, health, information, water, and the media among others.
