Work, Travel, and Other International Opportunities

In addition to supporting study abroad by UWM students, the OPP team provides information on overseas service learning, volunteer, work, and travel opportunities. OPP maintains an extensive library of handouts on these topics. UWM students who have returned from study abroad are also available as volunteers to assist students. In addition, OPP offers many opportunities for students interested in working in an international office with international o r study-abroad students.& nbsp;For more on OPP Resources.

Working abroad may be the perfect option for you if you are unable to study abroad. If you choose an internship, and want to receive credit, you should arrange to meet with the Study Abroad Advisor to discuss your options. If you choose to work throu gh organizations such as the CIEE or BUNAC (The British Univ ersities North America Club), you may retrieve the information through our direct links or in the Study Abroad Library.

UWM students who find information on Non-UWM Study Abroad or Internship Programs should call (414) 229-5182 and make an appointment to meet with the Study Abroad Advisor. It is important that you meet with the a dvisor to ensure proper credit transfe r and financial aid application.

  • CIEE offers a wide variety of program and scholarship information. Many of these programs are offered through a consortium agreement with UWM. If you wish to participate one of CIEE's programs, i t is important that you meet with the Study Abroad Advisor prior to application submission.

  • Council Travel offers fantastic deals on airline tickets, information on work abroad programs, International Student I.D. Cards, just to name a few.   OPP also issues the Inter national Student I.D. Card. Call (414) 229-5182 to make an appointment.

  • Studyabroad.com offers a search engine on study and internships abroad. In addition, there is a live chat room where you can discuss your experience abroad or your questions about what to expect.

  • Petersons is a wonderful search engine of study abroad programs.

  • Travel.com offers extensive travel information and links to airlines, accommodations, weather, foreign consulates, U.S. State Department Travel Warnings, and various other organizations. This i s a perfect site to retrieve many important facts about the country you wish to visit.

  • Transitions Abroad is a wonderful site that offers information on study, volunteer, work and travel abroad.

  • IIE is a powerful search engine of study abroad programs, as well as scholarship information. If you find a scholarship that fits your needs, please make an appointment with the Study Abroad Advis or. Many of these scholarships are administered through OPP.

  • Overseasjobs.com offers resources and information for those pursuing work abroad. The site is useful for both professionals and students.

  • Mobility International is an organization that works with students with special needs. Information on specific programs and scholarships is readily available.
