International Education Week
UWM Center for International Education and Institute of World Affairs will be celebrating International Education Week with an array of programming this fall. International Education Week, held November 17-21, 2008, is an opportunity to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide. It is a joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education to promote programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn, and exchange experiences in the United States.
Events will include:
Monday, 11/17 Careers across the Map Tips for Teaching English Abroad 12:00-12:50pm Curtin Hall 175
Interested in teaching English abroad? Wondering how to find a placement and prepare for the experience? Join us for a panel presentation do discuss how to get started. The panel will include professionals who have taught English in various countries, as well as UWMs ESL program.
International Education at UWM-Information Table 11am-1pm Union Concourse
Stop by and find out how you can be involved with International Education at UWM. Information will be available on study abroad opportunities, internationally-focused academic programs, and public program opportunities.
Tuesday, 11/18
Global Mosaic: Students of Color and Study Abroad 12-1pm Garland 104
An informal brown bag with students and staff of color who will talk about their own international experiences and share tips on how you can make it happen.
International Reception 3-5pm Library Conference Center
You are invited to attend our annual International Reception to recognize international students, scholars and the globally-minded UWM community. Chancellor Carlos Santiago will be presenting the opening remarks. Refreshments will be served.
International Quiz Bowl 8pm-10pm Gasthaus (Union basement)
Show off your international trivia knowledge! Play individually or bring a team, prizes will be given to trivia winners.

Cultural Chaos: An Interactive Game 12-1:30pm Greene Hall
Enjoy a cross-cultural simulation and enriched learning experience through a simple game that can help us understand the communication differences between people in our own community and around the world.
Global Health and Development- Impact of Civil Conflicts on Health and Health Care Systems 7:00-8:30pm Cunningham 151
Prof. Aaron Buseh of the College of Nursing will address a critical area of concern for all individuals, governments, and non-governmental organizations involved in international peace building and economic development: the rebuilding of healthcare systems in countries emerging from conflicts.
Thursday, 11/20
International Bazaar 10-2pm Union Ballroom
Celebrate the cultures of UWM! The Global Student Alliance is sponsoring this annual event in which various UWM cultural student organizations set-up cultural displays, participate in cultural demonstrations, and prepare authentic dishes from their countries. Various musical and dance performances will be held throughout the day.
