Maintaining Your Status

Enrollment*

Enrollment is reported via SEVIS to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

Undergraduates must maintain full-time enrollment of 12 credits for each Fall and Spring semesters.

Graduate students who do not have a graduate or project assistantship must maintain full-time enrollment of 8 credits for each Fall and Spring semester.

Graduate students who have a teaching or project assistantship must maintain the equivalent to full-time enrollment of 6 credits for each Fall and Spring semester.

Under certain circumstances your international advisor may authorize less than full-time enrollment. 

Extensions

If you you will not complete your program by the program end date on #5 of your I-20 or #3 of your DS-2019 you must apply for an extension BEFORE the end date, i.e. the date your document expires.  If you do not apply for an extension before your I-20 or DS-2019 expires you may face serious consequences including losing your visa status.

Change of address

Please complete a SEVIS Update Form for any change of address.  This information is reported via SEVIS to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.  You must also update your address on PAWS.  Please remember that your Home address must be your foreign address and your Mailing address must be your Milwaukee address.

*Enrollment is not required during the Summer unless your program of study begins in the Summer term.
