The
Pacific Asian Management Institute: Call for Teaching
Proposals
Summer Session I: May
22-June 30, 2006
Summer Session II: July 3-August 11, 2006
The
Pacific Asian Management Institute (PAMI) is the center for international
business education, programs and activities at the University of Hawaii College
of Business Administration (CBA). It offers Certificates in International
Management and International Entrepreneurship to graduate and undergraduate
students completing the PAMI requirements of three PAMI courses and attendance
at special lectures over the summer. The program is open to students from
any academic discipline, professionals, to residents as well as
foreigners. For information on PAMI and last summer's course offerings,
please access the PAMI website: www.pami.hawaii.edu.
The PAMI
program is recognized as a leading U.S. international business certificate
program that emphasizes business and cultural factors affecting modern
enterprises in the Pacific-Asian region.
Obtaining either of the
Certificates indicates completion of an intensive study of international
business or entrepreneurship topics.
Faculty and participants come from all
over the world and engage in a variety of activities that include the weekly
Pacific Asian Lecture Series (PALS), the N. H. Paul Chung Memorial Lecture and
luncheon, field trips and social events, and a certificate completion
ceremony.
We are looking for a few select faculty who would be interested
in teaching traditional (classroom-based) and/or online international business
courses: management, marketing, HR, entrepreneurship and accounting.
We try to balance the number of offerings between undergraduate and graduate
courses so feel free to propose a course for either level or for a combined
section. While the level of compensation for Summer 2006 is not yet
available, we can guarantee that it will not be less (could be more) than last
summer's base pay of US$4470 for a 3-credit course. We appreciate that
this amount is relatively modest so we normally make an effort to secure
external funds that enable us to provide an additional stipend that might cover
your airfare to and from Hawaii. You will also receive an office for the
duration of the specific session in which you are teaching, assistance in
securing housing accommodations, priority campus parking (for a modest fee) and
a faculty ID that gives you access to our libraries and laboratories and
discounts for a variety of on- and off- campus events and
performances.
If you are interested in joining us for a summer in Hawaii,
please prepare: (1) an updated curriculum vitae, (2) the
course name, level (graduate or undergraduate) and a syllabus or a fairly
detailed description of the course; and (3) mode: traditional
or online. If you have taught the course elsewhere, please give that
information as well. Finally, for marketing and advertising purposes, we
also request that you submit (4) a one-paragraph bio and (5) a one- paragraph
abstract of the course. Submit these via e-mail or mail by November 15,
2005 to the PAMI office at
Pacific Asian Management Institute (PAMI)

“Peace Profiles” Sought
Peace Review: A Journal of Social
Justice seeks
“Peace Profiles” for its subsequent issues. In each of quarterly issues,
PR runs a Peace Profile, which describes the peace or human rights work
of an individual or group. The review seeks more of these
profiles, in essays of between 2500-3500 words. The individual or group profiled
may be historical or contemporary. Very well known figures might have already
been profiled. Hence, PR is more interested in lesser
known but still significant individuals and organizations. “Peace Profiles” may
be submitted at any time, although writer deadlines are generally in
mid-October, mid-January, mid-April, and mid-July. Please consult Submission
Guidelines at: http://www.usfca.edu/peacereview/guidelines.htm
Please send “Peace
Profiles” to Robert Elias (Editor) or Kerry Donoghue (Managing Editor) at eliasr@usfca.edu, peacereview@usfca.edu or:

Global Performing Arts
Consortium
http://www.glopac.org/
With an interest in developing a
global consortium of arts organizations, a number of institutions, including
Cornell University and Columbia University, came together “to create easily
accessible, multimedia, and multilingual information resources for the study and
preservation of the performing arts.” Perhaps their biggest accomplishment thus
far is the Global Performing Arts Database (GloPAD), which is a massive database
that includes detailed multilingual descriptions of digital images, texts, video
clips, sound recordings, and complex media objects. As one might imagine, using
the database can be a bit complicated, but fortunately there is ample
information provided here for the neophyte. As might be expected, there are a
number of sample searches to get users started, including production titles such
as Showboat, or people such as George Bernard Shaw.
Isidore of Seville
http://www.isidore-of-seville.com/
Edited and maintained
since 1996, Tim Spalding’s Isidore of Seville website is a real find. It
contains a number of online exhibits and collections that explore a wide range
of themes, ranging from perceptions of Mona Lisa over time to the use of dragons
in art. One of the most helpful collections is dedicated to the Oracle of Delphi
and other ancient oracles. Here visitors can view a photographic collection of
images and read a variety of academic interpretations about oracles throughout
history. Those with a penchant for the ancient world will also want to look at
one of his most recent additions, the Wiki Classical Dictionary. Devoted to the
history, literature, as well as the mythology of the ancient world the
dictionary currently contains 564 articles, all of which may be searched in
their entirety.
