The Center for International Education (CIE) at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee offers an extraordinary wealth of international, global, and area studies programs and activities for faculty, staff, stu
dents and the public. We are most proud of our ongoing research agenda, since it shapes not only our public and scholarly programming but also, and most importantly, our cutting-edge curricular initiative, the cross-College, interdisciplinary Global Studies degree program. Just this past September, the third book in the series, "New Directions in International Studies," sponsored by Rutgers University Press
was published. Entilited Global Currents: Media and Technology Now, this volume highlights the scholarship of UWM and international scholars and expands cross-disciplinary dialougue about the nature of internationalism and globalization today.
CIE is also home to Wisconsin's only World Affairs council, The Institute of World Affairs, as well as a UW System office, the Institute for Global Studies. Because the insights and perspectives offered by students and scholars from other countries greatly enhance our campus, CIE also provides internati
onal admissions and immigration advising services.
In all of our endeavors, CIE seeks to foster a new, interdisciplinary, collaborative, and cooperative approach to international education at UWM, bringing together international and
Milwaukee-based scholars and students, fostering a global perspective on local concerns, and linking Milwaukee to the world. We hope to accomplish this ambitious agenda by expanding opportunities for study abroad, increasing the number of international students and faculty on campus, and offering an array of scholarly and curricular programs focused on international issues.
