Express Lane Walk-in Assistance

CDC career counselors provide 10-15 minutes of assistance on resumes/cover letters, brief job search and interview related questions, and beginning career planning steps.

PantherNet is an online database of professionals who are willing to talk with UWM students and alumni to share first hand career information and advice, discuss skills for career success, and offer strategies for locating internships and full-time employment.

Introduction to Choosing a Major and/or Career

In this free workshop you will identify what you want or need from a major/career and how to use that information effectively in your research and decision making.

Specifically you will:
  1. Identify your interests, values, and skills and explore their impact on your career preferences
  2. Develop a list of personalized questions to use in your research of majors/careers to determine how well they match your career preferences

Researching Majors and Careers Workshop

In this free workshop you will learn techniques and strategies to research majors, careers related to UWM majors, and other careers you are interested in.

Through both quick instructional formats and independent or assisted hands-on lab activities you'll have the opportunity to commit the time to that research you have been meaning to do. Hands-on lab sections will provide immediate assistance in resolving those research snags you encounter. This workshop is helpful for those choosing a major/career direction to those preparing for interviews.

Improving Your Interviewing IQ Workshop

Are you a freshman wondering how you are going to describe your classes to an employer someday? Are you a senior starting your professional interviews? Perhaps you are somewhere in between such as trying to get related work experience, getting ready to interview for internships, or planning to attend a CDC Career Day.

Regardless of where you are in your academic or career pursuits, this free interviewing workshop is for you. This is not your usual interview workshop with information you can learn from a book. This workshop will help you to prepare to comfortably present yourself and what you have to offer. Attend this workshop to get a new perspective regarding the interview process and how you can make an interview work for you in more effective ways.

Pathways to a New Career (D2L Course)

This course for adults and alumni provides a combination of self-paced assistance and instructor support through email and telephone discussions. Self-assessment, career exploration, goal setting and job search strategies are major themes.

Show on the Road

If you have an audience, we have a speaker. Arrange a career related presentation for your student organization, academic class, residence hall, or group of friends.

To bring a CDC speaker to your group you'll need at least 10 participants and a two-week advance notice. Your audience must be UWM students and/or alumni.

To coordinate a workshop for your group, please complete the Show on the Road Program Request Form.

Career Days and Job Fairs

These campus-wide events are free and open to UWM students and alumni. They offer you the opportunity to gather first-hand information about careers and jobs in business, non-profit, health care, education, military, and law enforcement as well as submit your resume(s) for summer jobs, internships, and part-time and full-time positions.
