MATCHING CAREERS TO SELF-EXPLORATION
Online Career Assessments

It is recommended that you print your answers and results from these assessments to refer to later and to discuss with a CDC counselor. These are only some of the resources available for career matching and self-exploration. Depending on your own career planning needs, a CDC counselor can refer you to additional resources. Before using online career assessments, read 7 Rules for Career Tests

 INFORMAL CAREER ASSESSMENTS
 (The CDC does not endorse these assessments as formal testing measures.)
  • Target Your Interests - Identify your areas of interest and get a list of careers that match. Quick and simple. Based on Holland's Occupational Themes.
  • What Job Would Suit Me - Develop a profile of your interests, values, and skills and then generate lists of matching careers. Requires brief registration which will allow you to save your information between visits. Takes 15-20 minutes.
  • Career Focus Interest Inventory - Identify your areas of interest and then receive a list of occupational clusters and careers that match. Be sure to print your answers to the questions before leaving the site. Takes 15-20 minutes.
  • CareerLink Inventory - Answer questions related to your interests, aptitudes, temperaments, physical capacities, preferred working conditions, and desired length of preparation for employment and see a list of matching career clusters. Be sure to print your answers to the questions before leaving the site. Takes 15-20 minutes.
  • Skills Identification - Rate your skills according to how much you would like them to be a part of your career and obtain a list of occupations that match. Takes 10-15 minutes.
  • Maze Master - Identify your interests, values, skills, and career goals. Receive a list of careers that match your interests. Requires brief registration which will allow you to save your information between visits. Takes 30-40 minutes.
  • TypeFocus Inventory - Identify your style of interacting with the world around you.Takes 5-10 minutes. Based on the MBTI.
  • TypeLogic and Information on Type - After taking the TypeFocus Inventory above, explore how your style influences your preferences for communication, learning, decision making, careers, and work environments.
 FORMAL CAREER ASSESSMENT - For UWM students and alumni only.
  • Strong Interest Inventory ($10 fee) - An appointment with a CDC counselor is required to receive a referral to this online tool. The Strong Interest Inventory serves as means of determining your general career interests by comparing your likes and dislikes to those of men and women successfully engaged in various careers. In addition to measuring your interests, the Strong will measure aspects of the style in which you like to learn, work, assume leadership and take risks.
