Undergraduate Advising Information
Declaration of Minor in Biological Sciences

This information applies to students entering UWM in the Spring of 2004 and thereafter.
UWM students who have matriculated before Spring of 2004 have the option of following the
new or previous curriculum.

The minor consists of 19 credits in biological sciences, including BIO SCI 150 and 152 (or equivalent). The 11 additional credits must be in courses that carry credit toward a Biological Sciences major. At least 9 credits must be taken at or above the 300 level in residence at UWM and at least one course must be a laboratory course beyond BIO SCI 150 and 152. Students must maintain an average GPA of 2.5 in courses in the minor.

1.The student should select a Departmental Advisor based on his/her area of interest in the Biological Sciences.
2.TO SET UP AN ADVISING APPOINTMENT:
A. Send an appointment request form to your prospective advisor using the email link on the Biological Sciences Advisors page, telling the days and times you are available to meet, so you can get specific information on the major and advice on planning your curriculum.
B.Print out an up-to-date copy of your transcripts to take to this meeting.
C.You will also need a College of Letters and Science "Declaration of Minor" form (available in the Dept. of Biological Sciences office, Lapham 181). Complete the form (type or legibly print all information).
3.The form with the advisors signature should then be returned to the receptionist in Lapham Hall S181. The receptionist will obtain the Department Chair's signature and forward the form to the College of Letters and Science.
4.The student should receive a copy of the form for the minor from the College of Letters and Science Academic Advising Office.
5.The student should return to meet with the Departmental Advisor regularly to discuss their plan of study.
6.The student must also meet each semester with their College of Letters & Science advisor (in Holton Hall) who will monitor their progress towards completion of the L&S requirements.
