Curriculum Equivalents
This information applies to students entering UWM in the Spring of 2004 and thereafter.
UWM students who have matriculated before Spring of 2004 have the option of following the
new or previous curriculum.
Students who already have a broad based knowledge in the Biological Sciences
can have their transcripts reflect the equivalent of Foundations of Biological
Sciences I &/or II through:
1. Advanced Placement Examinations: High school seniors who have taken
college-level courses in cooperation with the College Entrance Examination
Board's (CEEB) Advanced Placement Program (AP) may take the appropriate exams
and have their scores sent to the University. The policy for Biological
Sciences is that any student who earns a score of 4 or 5 on the Biology AP
exam will be considered to have the knowledge and skills of students who have
successfully completed Biological Sciences I & II. Transcripts for these
students will reflect that they have earned the 8 laboratory credits for
Biological Sciences I & II. 2. College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) Biology Exam. This exam provides
students with the opportunity to demonstrate college-level achievement in
Biology. The following is the Department of Biological Sciences CELP policy:
a) Students earning 57 or higher will be exempt from Foundations of Biology I &
II (150 & 152), earn 6 lab credits, and will be able to enroll in the next
level of core Biological Sciences courses.
If you are interested in learning more about the CLEP exam (including the
testing schedule) please see the information provided by the Department of Enrollment
Services.
