About the Researchers and their projects
The biotechnology core facilty is closely
associated with ongoing leading edge research projects on campus.
It offers scientists and students alike access
to scientific equipment and expertise that facilitates modern
biological discoveries.
Following is a list of our local researchers on
campus with a brief summary of their field of research.
If you want to learn more about a particluar
researcher or his projects, please use the link on the navigational bar
to the
left and you will be redirected to the professor's homepage.
Prof. Cheng:
The research field of Prof. Cheng is the
discovery and optimization of natural products like antibiotics,
anti-cancer drugs and other compounds of medical interest by metabolic
engineering of biosynthesis pathways.
Prof. Collins:
The research field of Prof. Collins is in the
molecular events involved in membrane biogenesis in
phototrophic bacteria and development of methods to study membrane
proteins.
Prof. Forst:
The research field of Prof. Forst is in
understanding the mechanisms by which bacteria adapt to different host
environments. His special focus is a motile gram-negative bacterium
that engages in both mutualistic and pathogenic host interactions.
Prof. Kuchin:
The research field of Prof. Kuchin is investigating
the regulatory mechanisms that control growth and development in Saccharomyces
cerevisiae (baker's yeast).
Prof. McBride:
The research field of Prof. McBride is the movement
of cells over surfaces without the aid of flagella
Prof. Prasad:
The research field of Prof.Prasad are functional
genomics of nutrient limitation response in
Escherichia coli K12 and Nitrogen
fixation with non-legumes.
Prof. Steeber:
The research field of Prof. Steeber is the
migration of leukocytes from the blood into tissues at sites of
infection.
Prof. Saffarini:
The research field of Prof. Saffarini is to
identify and characterize the iron and manganese reductases which are
part of respiratory processes that impact both the carbon and metal
cycles in aquatic environments.
Prof. Yang:
The research field of Prof. Yang is the application
of functional genomic tools to investigate microbial gene expression in
different environments and developing novel approaches for microbial
diversity profiling.
