UWM alumna Dr. Eugenie Scott to receive honorary degree from UWM

UWM will be presenting an Honorary Degree to Dr. Eugenie C. Scott at the Winter Commencement ceremony on Dec. 17 at the US Cellular Arena in downtown Milwaukee. Dr. Scott is the executive director of the National Center for Science Education in Berkeley Calif. She received both her BS and MS Zoology Degrees from UWM in 1967 and 1968, respectively. Dr. Scott is a leading proponent for the teaching of evolution in schools around the country. Following the Commencement ceremony there will be a reception for Dr. Scott from 4-6 p.m. in the front lobby of the newly remodeled Lapham Hall, 3209 N. Maryland Ave., on the UWM Campus. Dr. Scott will make a presentation at 4:30. Both the South and North wings of the building will be open for inspection during the hours of the reception. The North Wing has just reopened after two years of remodeling with new labs and offices on all floors, beautiful artwork to be seen on the front of the building and new landscaping. All alumni are invited to attend, especially those who spent a good bit of their life in the old Lapham Hall. Parking is free on Sundays, with the Science Lot south of Lapham being your best bet. Enter the lot westbound off Kenwood Boulevard just west of Maryland Avenue. For more information, e-mail abrooks@uwm.edu or phone 414-229-4214
