Graduate Student Travel Awards October 19, 2007; April 4, 2008
Students enrolled in UWM Master's and Doctoral programs are eligible to receive awards from the Graduate School in support of travel expenses for presenting papers at national or international professional meetings or conferences, or for performing or exhibiting original work. The student's presentation must be officially recognized by the sponsoring organization. Deadlines vary Applications may be submitted in either semester for retroactive or prospective travel: by October 19, 2007 for travel during the period July 1, 2007 - December 31, 2007, and by April 4, 2008, for travel during the period January 1, 2008 - June 30, 2008. Applications will be reviewed by a panel of graduate program representatives and graduate students.

Graduate School Fellowships January 25, 2008
The graduate school offers a number of fellowships and scholarships, including Graduate School and AOP Fellowships, which are open to graduate students in Art History. Deadline for these competitions is January 25, 2008 and requires completion of an application packet and submission to the Department.
The Chancellor’s Award is offered annually to the most promising incoming and current students. All accepted or enrolled graduate students are automatically considered for the Award so there is no need to apply. Two awards of $2,500 were offered during the 2006-07 academic year. Awards are announced during April or May.

Nadine Walter Memorial Scholarship Incoming graduate students
The Nadine Walter Memorial Scholarship of approximately $2,500 is awarded to a first year graduate student on the basis of academic merit and availability of funding. Incoming graduate students are automatically considered for an award without application. Decisions are made by May 31.
Teaching Assistantships March 15, 2008
The Department currently has five teaching assistant positions. Qualified students are eligible to apply for graduate teaching assistantships plus full tuition remission. The appointment includes reduction of out-of-state tuition to in-state levels. Deadline for application is March 15, 2008. Further application information will be provided to current graduate students by the Graduate Advisor during January 2008 or to incoming graduate students upon admission to the program.
Robert S. and Helen R. Weber Awards Thesis Research
The Weber Fund provides small grants in support of M.A. thesis research. Please see the Department Program Assistant for an application form.
Lawrence R. Hoey Memorial Prize Essay Prize
The Lawrence R. Hoey Memorial Prize is an annual prize awarded to the best essay written by a graduate student in art history. The Hoey Prize was established in 2000-2001 in honor of Professor Lawrence E. Hoey who taught in the Department of Art History from 1981 to 2000. The chosen winner is invited to present the paper to the Department faculty, students and the Friends of Art History during the Spring of the following academic year and receives a nominal monetary amount.
