Andrea Stone teaches Precolumbian, African, and Oceanic art. Her research interests are in Mesoamerican art, particularly the art of the Classic Maya. She has carried out field work in Guatemala, Mexico, Belize, Honduras, and El Salvador. She also specializes in the study of Mesoamerican rock art, the subject of her 1995 book, Images from the Underworld: Naj Tunich and the Tradition of Maya Cave Painting. She is currently completing a monograph on the petroglyphs of Lake Guija, El Salvador. She has had grants and fellowships from the National Geographic Society, the Fulbright Hayes program, the Tinker Foundation, the Foundation for the Advancement of Mesoamerican Studies, and the Dumbarton Oaks Research Library and Collections.
