Monday through Thursday, 11am - 4pm
The collections of the UWM Art History Gallery, housed within the Department of Art History in Mitchell Hall (Room 154), provide an exceptional opportunity for students to acquire first hand knowledge of museum practice. The department is committed to the training of graduate students in the theoretical and practical issues that encompass the field of art museum studies. The Graduate Certificate in Art Museum Studies provides an ideal complement to the terminal Masters degree in Art History offered by the department. The collection offers excellent opportunities for instruction and research, as well as exhibitions organized through graduate seminars and thesis exhibitions planned and curated by M.A. candidates.
The Art History Gallery occasionally hosts outside exhibits organized by other departments of the University and members of the wider Milwaukee community. Additionally, the gallery is used to highlight selections from the collection. Holdings include works by major modern masters, and representative examples of art from earlier periods.
The gallery is open to the public and admission is free. During off-hours, access is limited to members of the Friends of Art History who may visit the gallery by appointment.
Principal funding for the gallery is generously provided by the Friends of Art History and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
