isit William Hogarth's and Thomas Rowlandson's world of 18th-century women, where the gentler sex is not necessarily gentle and the fairer sex does not always play fair. On display at the Charles Allis Art Museum are thirty-one original engravings drawn from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Art History collection. In vibrant full color and in cunning black and white, these biting prints treat all aspects of London life—and women, of course, are in the thick of it all!

The works displayed in Engraving Their Place: Hogarth, Rowlandson and the Women They Created were generously donated to the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee by Les Gershan and his family. The curators of this exhibition wish to thank them for sharing this beautiful gift of wit and artistry.
