Outline of Requirements:
For a major in Anthropology, students must complete a minimum of 33 credits of course work with a grade of C or higher. Required courses include 156-101, 156-102, 156-103, 156-460, a methods course (various topics), and at least three credits in Level 300 (or higher) courses in each of the categories of Prehistory, Physical Anthro, Cultural Anthro, and Linguistic Anthro. Please consult the University Undergraduate Bulletin for an official statement of these requirements and course prerequisites, as well as college and university requirements.

Learning goals for undergraduate majors

  1. Describe and apply basic anthropological information and concepts in the areas of archaeology, physical anthropology, cultural anthropology and linguistic anthropology.
  2. Design a research project that matches appropriate analytic methods to relevant research questions, and which articulates the larger theoretical significance of those questions.
  3. Develop critical reading, writing, and analytical skills.
  4. Apply ethical principles of the discipline regarding human and animal subjects, environmental protection, cultural heritage preservation, and collaboration with colleagues.
