Africology and You

AKO-BEN symbolizes the call to arms; a willingness to take action. This symbol is a significant version of the war horn.
Ako-ben

Africology is the normative and empirical inquiry into the life histories and life prospects of peoples of primary African origin and their descent, especially those who live in the United States, and Canada, Africa, the Caribbean, as well as Central and South America. Its purpose is to educate students to describe, explain, evaluate and predict actions, events and phenomena that structure the life experiences and possibilities of blacks in the several societies in which they live. Given the interdependence of the societies of today's world, Africology is thus relevant to you, and is especially germane to your interests, purposes, and good regardless of your race, gender, ethnicity, nationality or religion.

The Department of Africology at UWM prepares students for career opportunities in business, government, teaching, administration, the professions and social services. The major in Africology prepares students for graduate work in the discipline, and provides them with a foundation for advanced studies in such fields as economics, politics, sociology, history, English, anthropology, communications, and professions such as law, business and management as well as public policy and public administration.
