On August 14, 2006 , Claudia Elena Guzmán joined the staff of UWM's Roberto Hernández Center as the Outreach Specialist.
Since graduating magna cum laude with a degree in English and Spanish from Wellesley College in 2002, Claudia has actively sought out opportunities to positively impact her hometown of Milwaukee through the nonprofit sector. As Development Associate at La Causa, Inc., she engaged in communications, marketing and fundraising activities that helped expand the agency's donor and client base. In addition to creating written materials, she served as one of the primary coordinators of the annual Celebrity Waiters fundraiser and developed relationships with volunteers and the media in order to leverage their support in promoting the agency's mission.
After more than two years working on the inside of a nonprofit organization, Claudia joined a nonprofit consulting firm where she had the opportunity to view nonprofit operations from an external, analytical perspective. As Urban Strategies' Lead Project Coordinator, she helped to plan and manage the execution of multiple projects, including strategic planning processes, cultural competency and workforce diversity initiatives, benchmarking research, focus groups and surveys.
Claudia is a member of the Hispanic Professionals of Greater Milwaukee, Young Professionals of Milwaukee and the Young Nonprofit Professionals Network. She is a 2006 graduate of the Latino Nonprofit Leadership Program and a member of the inaugural Steering Committee for Latinas en Acción, a new fund affiliated with the Women's Fund of Greater Milwaukee.
