"Discrete Probability and Statistics for Elementary Education Majors"

Announcements:

[Dec 12] Since classes were cancelled Tuesday Dec 11, when we were supposed to take our 75 min. individual exam, here's what we'll do instead. On our regularly scheduled Final Exam Period, Tuesday, Dec 18, 10-12 noon, in our regular classroom, we will take both a 1 hour (55-60 min) individual final, and then a 1 hour group final. The individual part will be closed book/notes, but I will give you the fact sheet (below). The group part will be open book/notes, so please bring your binders. The presentation portion of the group exam may be cancelled, I'll decide during the final when I see how long it is taking the groups to do their write-ups. The grade breakdown as advertised in the syllabus will not change.

[Dec 4] Here is a preview of the Final Fact Sheet that will be giving to you on the individual final exam.

[Nov 30]

Due to exam scheduling, I am changing my office hours for the rest of the semester to best help you prepare:

[Nov 21] The group portion of Exam 2 contained a more difficult / open-ended problem than you had do to on Exam 1. This resulted in difficulties for many of the groups. I will discuss all this in class next week, and I will hand out a short piece of advice I have written about the goal of working in groups in a math class, see the new link above.

[Nov 21] I announced in class a while ago, but didn't post on the webpage: I will drop your lowest homework grade.

[Nov 8] Exam 2 is on Tuesday, November 20. It will be over all the sections we covered from IV.1 through V.3, including the material on HW # 9 which you will turn in Thursday, Nov 15 (and not get back before the exam).

[Oct 7] I announced in class last thurs that IV.1 would be on exam 1. However we didn't manage to get through it in class. Thus, we will wait til after the exam for this section. For HW # 5 (which we'll not hand in, but go over in class tuesday 10/9), do the III.4 problems, but do not do the problems assigned from IV.1. We will just spend this tuesday 10/9 reviewing, then take the exam thursday.

[Oct 2] I'm changing my office hours again. No one is coming on Wednesdays, so I'm cancelling Wednesday office hours, and extending Tuesday. Specifically, my office hours will be: Tuesdays, 2-3:30.

Xiaoying still has office hours Monday 2-3.

[Oct 1] Oops, I assigned the wrong problem on HW #4. You should do p. 66 3.2 and 3.5 (not 3.4).

[Sept 17] I apologize but due to sudden schedule changes in a seminar I need to attend, I cannot have office hours Tues. right after class. So, my new office hours will be Tuesdays 2:30-3:30, and still Wed. 4:30-5:30. As always, if you cannot attend one of those times, email me to try and schedule an appointment (but Tuesdays I'm busy 12:30-2:30 and 3:30-5).

[Sept 6] My office hours will be Tuesday 12:30--1:30 and Wed 4:30--5:30 (EMS E494). Our TA Xiaoying's office hours will be Monday 2-3 pm (EMS W410).

(In class we planned for me to have Tues 1:30-2:30 office hours, but I had to change my schedule around).

[Sept 4] Welcome to the class! Take a moment to explore the links above. Please read the "General Course info" above for the basic course policies, check the "day-to-day syllabus" for sections covered each day, and keep track of assigned "Homework" and upcoming "Exams".
