Objectives and Introduction
Labs provide hands-on opportunities
for you to enhance your knowledge learned from lectures and readings, and to
build up your skills in RS related tasks.
The first several labs are exercises
on basic concepts of remote sensing and will not be using computers; later with
most of the time you are specifically expected to get familiar with using
IDRISI Kilimanjaro , a PC-based image processing software; and lastly, ERDAS
IMAGINE, a more advanced image processing program will be briefly introduced.
Logistics
٭You need to have a
calculator with scientific notation, hand lens, eraser, #2pencil and colored
pencils (purple, green, red, yellow and brown), and several CDs to hand in
assignments.
٭Required software have
been installed on machines in Bolton 581 as well as other public campus
computer labs.
٭Image data required are
downloadable at the lab website before each lab:
http://www.uwm.edu/~gar2/Geog403_Assign.htm
*Each data file is self-extracting and will create a folder
C:\temp\Geog403\ (if not existing) for the extracted files automatically
when you open it.
٭No lab manual. Handouts
for each lab will be passed out at the beginning of each lab, and are also
downloadable online for you to preview.
٭Only lab materials are
allowed to be printed out using the lab printers, excluding the on-line IDRISI
tutorial (under software Help menu), which you can print out at your own cost
at public labs, in case you are not comfortable with reading it on the screen.
*In addition, a D2L site has been set up for the labs to
check grades, progress, and chat with fellow classmates.
*A class reflector has also been developed to facilitate communication among students
Notices
٭All notices on the main course syllabus of Prof. Wu are applicable to the lab.
٭Each assignment is due at the beginning of the following lab, unless otherwise noticed(Lab #1, #3, #7). You will be given 1 week to finish a regular lab or 2 weeks for harder ones (Check the schedule below.). For each week an assignment is handed in late, 1 point will be deducted.
*Excessively late work will result in a grade of zero unless special permission from the TA or Prof. Wu is obtained.
